The Saudi owner of Sheffield United, Prince Abdullah, has set a £110 million asking price for the sale of the club, according to highly respected journalist Alan Nixon. This valuation, however, is thought to have been a significant barrier for potential buyers, discouraging investment in what could be a lucrative opportunity to own a future Premier League football club.

Recently, A new chapter in the negotiations has begun with Steven H. Rosen, a highly experienced private equity executive, taking the reins on behalf of an American-based consortium interested in purchasing Sheffield United. According to The Star, Rosen’s involvement comes after the exit of two key figures in the negotiation process, Englishmen Tom Page and Dominic Hughes. Insiders suggest that Page’s erratic behaviour may have played a part in his departure from the deal.

A representative of Rosen attended the recent match against Luton Town, demonstrating a hands-on approach to the acquisition process. Observing the atmosphere at Bramall Lane and engaging with the fanbase is a clear indication that the consortium, under Rosen’s leadership, is keen on understanding the culture that make Sheffield United a unique club.

As negotiations continue, Rosen’s leadership could be a decisive factor in bridging the gap between Prince Abdullah’s asking price and the consortium’s valuation. However, until a deal is reached, the £110m figure remains a sticking point that could delay the club’s change of ownership.

Sheffield United monitoring potential free agent left-back

In other news, as per Alan Nixon, Sheffield United, Preston North End, and Stoke City are reportedly showing interest in Aberdeen left-back Jack MacKenzie as his contract nears its expiration next summer. The 24-year-old has been a key player for the Scottish side, and his potential availability on a free transfer has attracted attention from these English clubs.

In seven starts in the Scottish Premiership this season, Mackenzie has helped the team record two clean sheets. His form through the early stages of the season has seen him be rewarded with a call-up to the Scotland national team, and he was named on the bench in Scotland’s recent defeat to Croatia in the Nations League. He was an unused substitute in the game.

MacKenzie’s versatility and solid defensive performances have made him a promising target, as he could provide a valuable option for clubs looking to strengthen their backline without a large financial outlay.

The Blades are already heavily stacked in the left-back position however. They have Harrison Burrows, who, as expected, has cemented that spot in the team. And then Chris Wilder has a very useful backup in Sam McCallum, who has been used a substitute and rotational player. In reserve, Wilder has Rhys Norrington-Davies that can play left-back, and he’s been used as a left-sided centre-back during cup games. Therefore, you would think the Blades don’t need an additional left-back at this time.
