Manchester City legend Kevin De Bruyne has revealed personal plans to keep hold of his long-time family home in the region beyond life at the Etihad Stadium this summer.
The 33-year-old is due to bring an end to his association with Manchester City this summer after a decade of service to the club, working under both Manuel Pellegrini and Pep Guardiola in bringing an unprecedented era of success.
With multiple Premier League titles and domestic honours to his name, alongside a UEFA Champions League winners medal, De Bruyne will be free to take up a new challenge in the coming days as City release the legendary midfielder for a free transfer.
As such, De Bruyne has now played his final match for the club and will play no part in the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup, previously admitting that a concern over potential injury could jeopardise his chances of a new opportunity in the game beyond last season.
Speaking during a new interview with Manchester City’s official club website, the midfielder has spoke about the life he is due to leave behind this summer following his exit from the Etihad Stadium, with Serie A champions Napoli believed to be his next destination.
“What will I miss? I guess my life in general – I think my wife and my family have come to understand more now the decision has been made what is going to change for the future and it’s actually been really good,” the 33-year-old said.
He continued, “We’ve had a lot of time to get used to the life we have here and sort everything out, but to change a lot of things is also not easy, especially when you have little ones. It’s the unknown, I suppose, for the future, so it’s been hard in that respect.”
And what about the De Bruyne family’s long-standing family home in the Cheshire region of the North-West?
“We don’t know what is going to happen in the future, but my kids are asking me to keep the house, so we’ll probably keep it,” the midfielder told the club.
“So the answer I would say for now, is probably yes, we will still have a home here.”
The retention of a family home in the Manchester region will no doubt give City supporters hope of a return to the club one day in some capacity, whether that be as a fan or an employee in a coaching position.
Kevin De Bruyne is believed to have already achieved his UEFA A coaching license, and as such his steps into the management world are ready for whenever his playing career ultimately comes to an end in the coming seasons.
