Following their 4-1 win on aggregate over SL Benfica in the Round of 16 of the UEFA Champions League, FC Barcelona have advanced to the quarter-finals of the competition.
In this next round of the competition, the Catalans are set to face the German side Borussia Dortmund, who were the finalists in the last edition of the UCL.
The Blaugranes have already beaten the black and yellow side in the League Phase of the tournament earlier in the season, but there are still some commentators who believe that the Germans will be able to get the better of them in this upcoming tie.
However, their task of doing so has seemingly become somewhat difficult, as Mundo Deportivo reports that one of their key midfielders, Marcel Sabitzer, suffered an injury in the match against RB Leipzig, which BVB ended up losing 2-0.
The Austrian midfielder came out the worse in a collision with Gross and Baumgartner, while he was trying to clear the ball. Early tests and images from the doctor’s initial assessment do not paint a very good picture for Sabitzer, and he was also seen leaving the pitch in tears as Niko Kovac replaced him with Bensebaini in the 29th minute of the game.
More detailed tests will provide a better idea of when the Austrian will be able to play again. However, it looks quite unlikely that he will be able to participate in the quarter-finals against Barcelona.
The first leg of this tie is scheduled to take place at Montjuic on April 9th, while the second leg will be played at the Signal Iduna Park a week later, on April 15th.
One can only hope that the midfielder will be able to return for these games and play his part in ensuring a highly entertaining two-legged affair for the fans.
