There is more work to do in the January transfer window at Ewood Park

The 2024 January transfer window was seen as a rather successful one for Blackburn Rovers on the whole.

Despite some high profile departures, there were also nine new players added to the squad at Ewood Park over that period.

As a result, there was a sense that on the whole, John Eustace has a stronger set of options to chose from, than he did in the second-half of last season, after taking over in February.

However, the head coach himself recently stressed that the squad is still a work in progress, and that he would like more new additions when transfer window reopens in January.

So with that in mind, we've taken a look at what the perfect January transfer market might look like for Blackburn Rovers, right here.

Kwame Poku signs

Late last month, it was reported that the Ewood Park club are interested in signing Peterborough United's Kwame Poku.

A winger with pace and an end product is something that Eustace's side have lacked so far this season, and the 23-year-old could certainly help to remedy that.

Poku has been outstanding this season in terms of both goals and assists, and certainly looks as though he is ready to make the step-up to the Championship.

With his contract expiring at the end of this season, he could be an affordable target, and given interest will surely emerge from elsewhere, it would be a coup for Blackburn to make this signing.

Paudie O'Connor signs

Another player Rovers have been linked with recently who could be a good January addition at Ewood Park, is Paudie O'Connor.

The Lincoln City centre-back would provide depth in his position at Ewood Park, and a different option to the current veteran back-up of Danny Batth and Kyle McFadzean.

With Hayden Carter out for several months through injury, Batth is now partnering Dom Hyam, which will put a big demand on the 34-year-old.

Bringing in the 27-year-old O'Connor would therefore give Blackburn scope to rotate with an alternative style of player in that role.

Ali Al-Hamadi signs

After promising starts to the season, goals have not come regularly for Rovers' two new strikers, with Yuki Ohashi not scoring since September, and Makhtar Gueye yet to score in the league.

As a result, a centre-forward who has shown they can get goals in the Championship, may well be on the agenda come January, and the Ewood Park club may want to consider Ali Al-Hamadi.

The 22-year-old helped Ipswich Town win promotion last season, but has struggled for game time in the Premier League, and so could benefit from a loan move in January.

Given their recent history with the Tractor Boys - see Lewis Travis and Sammie Szmodics - Blackburn may feel they could be in a good position to negotiate such a deal.

Lewis Travis stays

Speaking of Lewis Travis, the club captain has been in outstanding form since returning from his loan spell at Portman Road in the second-half of last season.

The midfielder looks even more combative than usual when doing his defensive work, while his attacking play has improved considerably.

Other Championship clubs such as Stoke City and Hull City were linked in the summer, and his form means it would be no surprise if that interest returned in January.

But, given Travis has arguably been the Player of the Season so far for Blackburn, they will surely not want to lose their captain for the second January running, given his importance to the side.
