Kylian Mbappe closing in on Real Madrid goal record

Kylian Mbappe was the difference-maker as Real Madrid kept alive their La Liga title hopes against Celta Vigo.
Mbappe scored twice as the Spanish champions won 3-2 at the Santiago Bernabeu, surviving a late scare to claim three important points.
The France international has now scored 36 goals in all competitions for Real Madrid since his high-profile move from Paris Saint-Germain last summer.
He’s only the second player to score 35+ goals in their debut campaign for Los Blancos and is just one short of equalling the record.
The current milestone belongs Ivan Zamorano, who scored 37 goals in 45 games after joining Real Madrid from Sevilla in 1992. Zamorano’s return was the highest of his four seasons at the Bernabeu and included a hat-trick against his former team. However, the Chilean’s prolific campaign failed to lead to honours as he finished as runner-up for both La Liga and the Pichichi award.
Mbappe, second in the table and second to Robert Lewandowski among La Liga’s top scorers, might follow a similar fate.
