Barcelona are all set to face Las Palmas later tonight, with the Catalans looking for a victory that will help them retain the top spot in the La Liga table.
It promises to be a special game for Pedri, the Tenerife-born midfielder, who initially started his career at Las Palmas and has a deep emotional connection with the team even though he played professionally for the Canaries only for a short while.
Ahead of the highly anticipated fixture, Las Palmas president Miguel Angel Ramirez has shed light on the transfer that brought Pedri to FC Barcelona in the first place.
Speaking to RAC1 (h/t SPORT), Ramirez confirmed that the total cost of Pedri’s transfer to Barcelona has reached approximately €23-24 million.
This amount is significantly higher than the initial €5 million that the Blaugrana paid in the summer of 2019, as the agreement included various performance-based bonuses that have since been triggered.
“I think we are talking about an amount between €23 – 24 million, in that range,” said Ramirez.
“We reached a good agreement with a boy who had never played in professional football. FC Barcelona took a gamble,” he added.
Indeed, Las Palmas negotiated a deal that included several variables based on Pedri’s development and achievements at Barcelona.

Given the midfielder’s meteoric rise, his importance to the team, and his numerous accolades, including winning the Golden Boy award in 2021, these clauses were inevitably met, thus inflating the final transfer fee.
Barcelona, for their part, won’t mind paying these variables either, considering the fact that their bet on Pedri has completely paid off.
But this is not all. Ramirez confirmed that Las Palmas also hold a sell-on clause, meaning the Canaries are entitled to a percentage of Pedri’s future sale from Barcelona.
“Well, as you know, we have a percentage of a future sale,” said the Las Palmas president.
Ramirez, though, did admit that Barcelona were always cooperative and that Las Palmas were satisfied with the transfer.
“Barcelona has always helped us in the agreement, they have fulfilled faithfully and I think we are all satisfied. We made a good sale, Barça made a good purchase, and the boy is at one of the best clubs in the world. Therefore, everyone is happy,” he stated.
Ramirez also talked about Pedri’s deep emotional connection with the club and the fact that Las Palmas will welcome him tonight as his own.
“Everyone here loves Pedri very much, they have great affection for him, great affection and, of course, great respect,” he said.
“Pedri is going to feel at home, as he always has when he played with us, and obviously this time it will not be any other way.”
This will be the first time Pedri returns to Las Palmas and says thanks to a group of supporters who had his back only for a brief period, but it was enough so that he could launch a career that now seems timeless.
