Levi Colwill has been speaking about what life is like under Enzo Maresca and has made a huge claim about his manager.

Maresca replaced Mauricio Pochettino last summer after guiding Leicester to the Championship title last season, and signed a five year deal at Stamford Bridge.

The 45-year-old made a brilliant start to life in west London, with the Blues second in December and very much in the title conversation.

However, since Christmas things haven’t gone to plan and Chelsea are on a run of three wins in their last 11 league matches, although they are still right in the race for Champions League qualification.

Colwill has been a mainstay in the team under Maresca, with the 22-year-old forming part of Chelsea’s first choice defensive partnership with Wesley Fofana, although Jason Cundy believes he’s learning on the job.

The academy graduate has started 25 Premier League games this season, but his form has come in for criticism recently.

Colwill is now in his second full season as a first team regular at Chelsea, and was full of praise when discussing his current boss.

“I think with Maresca, the way he thinks about football is light years above everyone else,” Colwill told BBC Football Focus.

“Of course, I have been blessed with loads of different managers that have been amazing.

“He is pushing me to understand football in a different way. That’s why I’m very blessed to play football under him and learn as much as possible.”

It’s easy to forget Maresca is in just his second season as a manager in senior football, and the Chelsea job is one of the most difficult and demanding out there.

The Italian has acquitted himself well so far, although he’s facing a critical end to the season with Chelsea needing to qualify for the Champions League, whilst he’s also under pressure to win the Conference League, with the Blues overwhelming favourites.
