Liverpool boss Slot to assess squad players across run-in

Arne Slot has suggested he will run the rule over Liverpool’s squad players across the run-in as he begins to plan for next season.
Liverpool wrapped up the Premier League title against Tottenham last Sunday, securing the championship with four games to spare. The Reds can now afford to relax across the run-in and Slot has suggested he will look to utilise the squad in the remaining games.
The Dutchman has rarely altered his first-choice lineup all season but has said he will rotate to see where some of his squad are at ‘looking ahead to next season’. Liverpool travel to face Chelsea in the Premier League this weekend.
“It’s four games we are trying to win, what we always want,” Slot said at his pre-match press conference.
“Everyone one with a LFC shirt should aim for. I would look at the amount of points now to teams to who won it with four games to go before. My lineups will be different to what we’ve had the last 10 months, won’t change everyone but there will be some rotation. Not to say we will lose, we have a lot of trust in those players but it would be more honest to judge points total now to the ones in the past with four games to go.
“I think some of the players deserved to play earlier because they have trained so well and are good enough but I mainly chose the same players, so I see where they are looking ahead to next season a bit but also because they deserve to play this season.”
One player who has struggled for minutes this season is Harvey Elliott. The 22-year-old has not started a league game this season and totalled just 189 minutes in the Premier League. Elliott has been linked with an exit this summer.
On the midfielder’s future, Slot added: “I think it’s very important that people who are here want to stay, Harvey is one of them who hasn’t had enough playing time as he has deserved but he is in competition with good players and he was injured.
“I have been honest with him, before his injury he wasn’t the same when he came back but last few months he has back to that level before it. Last few months his time has gone up more, so I liked him more now than when he first came back from his injury.”
