Liverpool fans have trolled Manchester United with a triumphant title message placed near Old Trafford.

The Anfield Wrap, whose coverage of the Reds includes podcasts and videos, revealed on Tuesday a giant advertising board situated above a road right near the home of their fiercest rivals, which read: “Manchester, just 37 miles to the country’s most successful football club.”

In a message on X revealing the advert, they wrote: “A message for Manchester… and we’re never gonna stop.”

Liverpool clinched the Premier League title with four matches to spare last month after a sublime first season under Jurgen Klopp’s managerial successor Arne Slot, moving level with previously solo record-holders United on 20 top-flight championships in total.

It is generally a bone of contention and subject of debate as to which of English football’s two historically most successful clubs has won the most major trophies overall, with some edging Liverpool just ahead and others having them exactly level on 68 pieces of silverware each.

The status of the Community Shield as a major trophy is also typically hotly disputed, with Liverpool clearly ahead if that is not counted in the final tallies.

While their rivals have prospered this season, United have endured by far their worst-ever Premier League season to date and currently sit 16th with just two games to play having suffered a 17th top-flight defeat of the campaign against West Ham at Old Trafford last weekend.

The Red Devils - whose 39 total points this term are a whopping 44 fewer than Liverpool, with a paltry goal difference of -11 compared to the champions’ +46 - have not won a single domestic game since beating relegated Leicester on March 16, losing five of seven and equalling their longest-ever run without a win in the Premier League era to increase head coach Ruben Amorim’s sense of frustration.

Last season had previously been United’s worst-ever Premier League campaign as they finished eighth under Erik ten Hag but won the FA Cup.

Remarkably despite their ongoing domestic struggles, United could still end up with a major trophy this season and automatic qualification back into the Champions League.

Amorim’s men have been a different proposition on the continent over recent months, beating the likes of Athletic Club, Lyon and Real Sociedad in two-legged knockout ties to book a place in the Europa League final in Bilbao on May 21, where they will face fellow Premier League strugglers Tottenham.
