Liverpool prepared to meet £50m release clause to sign Dean Huijsen | OneFootball

Liverpool will be looking to bolster their defence in the summer transfer window, and they have earmarked Dean Huijsen as a potential option.

According to Inews, the Reds see the 19-year-old centre-back as a long-term replacement for club captain Virgil van Dijk.

The AFC Bournemouth defender has a £50 million release clause in his contract, and Liverpool are happy to pay that amount.

Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur are also interested in signing Huijsen, but Liverpool have shown the strongest interest. The Reds are expected to move for him once the summer window opens.

Huijsen has made 26 appearances this season for the Cherries in all competitions and has two goals to his name. He joined from Juventus for £12.6 million in July and has made a real impact this season.

The Reds are on course to lift the Premier League title for the second time in six years, and there won’t be many players in the world who would not want to be a part of Arne Slot’s side if there’s an offer on the table.

Liverpool can offer Champions League football to young Huijsen and that itself is a big motivation for any young player to move to Anfield.

It is unclear whether Van Dijk will stay at the club beyond the end of the season as he has yet to sign a new contract. Nevertheless, Liverpool need to plan for the future, and at some point, they need to replace the Dutchman.

Ibrahima Konate has been influential this season, but his future has also come under speculation recently. Joe Gomez, on the other hand, is likely to be sold.

Richard Hughes could play a key role in bringing Huijsen to Anfield. Although Huijsen’s signing was completed after Hughes left Bournemouth to join Liverpool, he was involved in bringing Huijsen from Juventus in the first place.

Huijsen is a right-footer who can play left-centre-back and should be an ideal replacement for Van Dijk. The Reds are also keen to sign Boournemouth left-back Milos Kerkez in the summer transfer window.
