Luka Modrić speaks out on heated exchange with Vinícius Jr during Real Madrid’s win over Leganés | OneFootball

Real Madrid star Luka Modrić has provided his take on the heated back-and-forth between he and teammate Vinícius Jr. on Wednesday night.

For those who may have missed it, Modrić and Vinícius grabbed the headlines late yesterday evening.

This came after the pair were spotted exchanging frustrated words, late in Real Madrid’s last-gasp Copa del Rey victory over Leganés.

According to Marca, Modrić scolded Vinícius for not tracking back, to which the Brazilian responded in an exasperated fashion.

This left his captain less than impressed, with both Modrić and Valverde having continued to make clear that their attacking teammate’s defensive contribution was not sufficient.

Vinícius left the pitch following the full-time whistle looking visibly affected, not involving himself in Real’s post-match celebrations.

Speaking to the media in the game’s aftermath, it therefore came as little surprise when the subject of his on-pitch argument was put to Luka Modrić himself.

And the Croatian attempted to play the situation down, explaining:

“How am I with Vini? These are things that happen in football. You see everything that you shouldn’t see!”
