Sports fans have plenty to look forward to over the next few years, with the upcoming schedule packed with major global events.
Football features prominently, while multi-sports events such as the Olympic Games will garner plenty of interest when they are staged.
Read on as we look at some of the standout events scheduled to take place.
The 2025 Club World Cup takes centre stage this summer, with 32 teams battling to be crowned the best on the planet.
Stadiums across the United States will host matches featuring top clubs such as Real Madrid, Manchester City, Fluminense and many more.
The revamped tournament has caused controversy, with critics claiming it places unnecessary strain on an already packed schedule.
The best golfers from the United States and Europe will compete in the 2025 Ryder Cup, which will be held in September at Bethpage Black in New York.
Europe are bidding to become the first away side to win a Ryder Cup since the memorable ‘Miracle at Medinah’ in 2012.
They defeated the US 16.5-11.5 in Rome two years ago but are unlikely to find things as easy in front of a raucous American crowd.
More than 3,500 athletes from 93 countries will compete for 195 medals in 16 Olympic disciplines and six Paralympic sports in Italy in 2026.
A total of 116 events in eight sports are currently scheduled to be held over 19 days of competition in Lombardy and northeast Italy.
The men’s ice hockey tournament is one of the standout events, while ski mountaineering will feature in the Winter Olympics for the first time.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup will be held in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
The 23rd edition of the tournament will be the first to feature three host nations and 48 teams.
Argentina are the reigning champions, but 2024 European Championship winners Spain could be the team to beat.
England, Scotland, Wales and the Republic of Ireland will jointly host the 2028 UEFA European Championship.
Nine stadiums across the four nations will stage the tournament, including Newcastle United’s St James’ Park ground.
Old Trafford, Anfield, Parkhead and Ibrox are notable exceptions from UEFA’s list of venues.
The provisional schedule for the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles is packed with exciting events across numerous sports.
Seven new or returning disciplines will complement the traditional core sports: baseball, coastal rowing, cricket, flag football, lacrosse sixes, softball and squash.
Los Angeles will become the third three-time host city of the Games after London (1908, 1948, 2012) and Paris (1900, 1924, 2024).
