Every week in the UK, 12 young people die from undiagnosed heart conditions. Since 2022, the Heart of West London partnership has been using the power of sport to raise awareness of cardiac health.
Our mission is to prevent sudden cardiac death by increasing access to resources and support, and by ensuring everyone has the skill to save lives.
The collective work of the club, Brentford FC Community Sports Trust and its charity partners has raised thousands of pounds to fund groundbreaking research into cardiac health at Royal Brompton and Harefield Hospitals Charity.
Alongside this vital research, the partnership is equipping people across west London with the skills to administer and teach CPR, and has funded publicly accessible defibrillators outside of the Gtech Community Stadium.
It has also organised over 500 free heart screenings for young people in our community with 36 people referred for further, potentially lifesaving follow-up investigations.
By getting involved in our matchday activity, or making a donation, you’re joining us in changing the game for heart health. On Tuesday, we’ll be marking the success of the partnership so far and highlighting what more we can achieve with your help. Here’s how you can get involved with our Heart of West London partnership.
Take two minutes to learn how to give CPR. It may be the most important two minutes of your life.
The Heart of West London team will be in our lounges in the south stand giving CPR demonstrations and meeting fans. There will also be a short CPR video tutorial shown on the big screens ahead of kick-off on Tuesday night.
We also encourage everyone to scan one of the heart-shaped CPQR codes located around the stadium and on the front cover of the matchday programme - as well as below - to open Resuscitation Council UK’s video tutorial on your phone. This code will also be on the front of the Brentford players’ match shirts.
Learning CPR is a vital skill and when performed, it can increase the likelihood of surviving cardiac arrest. The more people that know how to administer it, and are willing to teach others, the more we can protect our community from the fatal risks of cardiac health.
If your ticket is in the north stand (block N123 and N124), please take your seat in time for the players’ pre-match walk-out to be a part of our fan display.
Help us spread the Heart of West London message by holding your coloured card up as the players walk out. The display will emphasise that every week in the UK, 12 young people die from undiagnosed heart conditions, and raise awareness of our work to change this.
Ahead of kick-off, the Brentford players will wear Heart of West London warm-up shirts and stats about heart health will be displayed on the big screens.
We’ll also be speaking to Dr Steve Cox, CEO of Cardiac Risk in the Young, about the success of the campaign so far and celebrating all the people that are helping to save lives.
This season, Brentford fans can bid for their favourite player’s signed match shirt in auctions hosted by club partner, MatchWornShirt, with any money that the club receives from auctions going directly to Heart of West London. For this matchday, 100 per cent of proceeds will be donated.
Auctions go live at kick-off. Get involved to receive a signed shirt and make a donation to support heart health.
Cardiac Risk in the Young will be delivering more free cardiac screenings for fans aged 14-35 on Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 March.
Screenings will take place at the BFCCST Community Sports Hub, next to the stadium. Keep an eye out for the sign-up process on the club’s channels and emails.
