Manchester United are reportedly scouting Senne Lammens, a young goalkeeper who’s slowly but surely rising to stardom in Belgium.
Based on the most recent outings from Andre Onana and his understudy Altay Bayindir, the Red Devils could do with a new custodian. For instance, both aforementioned shot-stoppers conceded goals from a direct corner kick in the space of seven days.
While Onana has been mixing superb displays with blunder-ravaged performances, Bayindir has yet to convince the club’s supporters as well as the coaching staffs (from Erik ten Hag to Ruben Amorim) which explains his lack of appearances for the club.
So according to the Telegraph, Man United are prepared to invest in a new goalkeeper, albeit not immediately.
The club has more urging priorities in January, especially with Marcus Rashford seemingly headed towards an inevitable exit after being completely omitted from Amorim’s plans over the past four matches, while Joshua Zirkzee is being targetted by Juventus. Hence, the management will likely have to pull off a signing upfront.
Nevertheless, the source expects the falling giants to address their goalkeeping issues in the summer, with Lammens emerging as a possible solution.
The 22-year-old rose through the ranks of Club Brugge but was eventually allowed to leave after failing to cement himself a regular place with the first team, so he ended up sealing a move to another Belgian top-flight side in the shape of Royal Antwerp.
This season, Lammens has established himself as the club’s ultimate first-choice goalkeeper. He has thus far made 20 appearances in the league, conceding 21 goals and registering five clean sheets in the process.
The young custodian has also become a regular feature for Belgium U21, as his stock continues to rise. His contract with Antwerp is valid until June 2027.
