Manchester United duo Ella Toone and Phallon Tullis-Joyce were named the club’s Player of the Year and Players’ Player of the Year, respectively, capping off a superb WSL season for both of them.
United enjoyed a brilliant campaign that saw then qualify for the Champions League and reach another Adobe Women’s FA Cup final, although they were beaten by Chelsea at Wembley on Sunday.
Toone and Tullis-Joyce were central to that.
Toone’s win as Player of the Season holds deep personal significance, coming after the heartbreaking loss of her father, who passed away in September just days before his 60th birthday.
The 25-year-old successfully fended off strong competition from Tullis-Joyce and skipper Maya Le Tissier, who finished second and third respectively in the voting.
It’s worth noting that Toone also claimed the award last year, meaning she has successfully defended her Player of the Year crown.
Reacting to the achievement, Toone wrote on X, “Thank you for sticking with me in the hardest time of my life. I know the big man will be proud of the way I’ve dealt with things this season and how I’ve managed to navigate through football and life without him.”
“It will never be easy but I know he will always be with me…”
Toone was also named the winner of United’s Goal of the Season award for her fantastic long-range effort against West Bromwich Albion in the FA Cup.
Meanwhile, Tullis-Joyce won the dressing room vote to become the Players’ Player of the Year.
The goalkeeper was in fine form in 2024/25, ensuring that summer departee Mary Earps was not sorely missed. Tullis-Joyce kept 13 clean sheets in 22 games. She conceded just 16 goals in that period.
Tullis-Joyce shared the Golden Glove award with Chelsea’s Hannah Hampton, although the United star edged her out to be named in the WSL Team of the Season.
