Wayne Rooney, a Manchester United legend, has shown his understanding of Trent Alexander-Arnold’s interest in moving to Real Madrid.
The Liverpool right-back has been a central figure for his club since he was just six years old. However, even the most loyal players often explore new opportunities as their careers progress.
Rooney acknowledged that Real Madrid’s current appeal is difficult to ignore which could be one of the reasons why Alexander-Arnold might be drawn to the Spanish giants.
“Madrid is the same now, with Mbappe, Bellingham and Vinicius, so it’s normal that Trent is attracted to it.
“Anyone would feel the same. He’s been at Liverpool since he was six, but the reality is that most players leave at some point, which is why there are so few ‘one-club men’ like Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher.
“I wouldn’t blame Trent for wanting to do something different, a new challenge in a new country. Spain could be a great move for him,” he said.

Rooney does not believe that Alexander-Arnold’s interest in Real Madrid is purely driven by the desire to win more trophies, as he has already achieved a lot at his current club.
Additionally, the presence of his close friend Jude Bellingham at Real Madrid could play a crucial role in Alexander-Arnold’s decision.
Rooney also highlighted that Liverpool’s approach to contract negotiations has been unusual in recent times. The club has previously allowed several high-profile players to run down their contracts.
“I think what bothers people is that he’s leaving for free, but this is for Liverpool and for Alexander-Arnold as well.
“We don’t know why his contract has been allowed to run down, but it’s something Liverpool have already done with Mohamed Salah and Virgil Van Dijk this season and in the past with Roberto Firmino and Georginio Wijnaldum.”
Rooney remains cautious about assuming Alexander-Arnold’s departure is inevitable.
Nothing has been officially signed with Real Madrid, and Rooney wouldn’t be surprised if Alexander-Arnold eventually decides to remain at Liverpool.
“Alexander-Arnold hasn’t signed anything with Real Madrid, and I wouldn’t be surprised if, after all this, he ends up staying at Anfield. A lot can happen before a contract is signed, as I know from my experience,” he added.
