Manchester United have reportedly joined the long queue of European clubs interested in the services of Ian Subiabre.

Despite his tender age, the 18-year-old has been a member of River Plate’s first team since January 2024. He is considered one of the most exciting young talents in South America.

According to Man Utd insider Sully, the Red Devils sent their scouts to keep a close eye on the young winger, and they certainly liked what they saw.

The journalist thus reveals that the teenager made a big impression on Man United Director of Professional Football and Scout, Christopher Vivell, so the Premier League giants have decided to enter the race that pits them against at least another 13 clubs, but Chelsea may have the upper hand at this stage.

“Understand United have entered the race for Argentine wonderkid Ian Subiabre,” posted Sully on his X account.

“Touted as the next big thing in South America, over 13 clubs across Europe are in hot pursuit for him with Chelsea leading. It’s understood to be highly influenced by Vivell and the scouting department.”

Subiabre is a left-footed player, so he’s mostly been deployed as an inverted winger who cuts from the right flank to the centre of the pitch, a role that Amad Diallo currently occupies at Man Utd (albeit he’s still recovering form an injury at the moment).

However, the last time the Red Devils tried to sign a left-footed winger, they ended up missing out on his signature, with Chelsea prevailing in the race. Of course, we’re talking about Sporting CP teenager Geovany Quenda, who chose to sign for the Blues rather than reuniting with his former coach Ruben Amorim.

Therefore, it would be interesting to see if Chelsea will emerge victorious once more at the expense of the Reds.
