Manchester City midfielder Jacob Wright, currently on loan at Norwich City, has request to leave his parent club permanently in the summer transfer window, as per a new report.
City are likely to conduct open heart surgery to their ageing, injury-riddled first-team squad that has failed to challenge for the Premier League and UEFA Champions League titles this season, with Kevin De Bruyne confirming his upcoming departure last week.
Pep Guardiola’s side dropped to sixth place in the Premier League after playing out a horrid 0-0 draw away at local rivals Manchester United on Sunday, with seven games left to secure Champions League football for the 2025-26 season.
Manchester City were handed a major boost in their Champions League qualification hopes for next season after it was reported on Tuesday UEFA have decided to allocate direct entry into the competition for a fifth-place finish in the Premier League owing to England’s superior UEFA coefficient over other top European leagues.
After a decision was made and confirmed on De Bruyne’s future at the club, the Manchester City board are believed to be conducting a thorough audit of the first-team squad after incoming sporting director Hugo Viana officially started work ahead of taking over from Txiki Begiristain this summer.
Begiristain, who joined Manchester City as director of football in 2012, is understood to have postponed his departure from the Etihad Stadium to the final day of the summer transfer window to help map the squad rebuild and aid Viana through the transition period.
Bernardo Silva, Ederson, Matheus Nunes, John Stones, Jack Grealish and James McAtee could all leave Manchester City at the end of the season – and the four-in-a-row Premier League winners would be making strides to ensure their active participation in the upcoming transfer window to recruit the best talent and challenge on all fronts next term.
As reported by Simon Bajkowski writing for the Manchester Evening News, City midfielder Jacob Wright has requested to leave the club on a permanent basis in the summer in search of regular first-team football.
Wright joined Norwich City on loan in February and with the 19-year-old approaching the end of his current Manchester City deal at the end of the season, the midfielder has told his parent club he would like to join Norwich City on a permanent deal when his loan spell ends.
The England U-20 international began the current season with Manchester City’s first-team on the insistence of Pep Guardiola and after his only minutes for the Blues came against Tottenham in a 1-0 Carabao Cup defeat, Wright has decided his future lies at Carrow Road after making an impressive start to his loan stint with the EFL Championship side.
