The complete Manchester City travelling squad that has made the journey to Southampton this weekend has been revealed ahead of the St Mary’s clash.
Pep Guardiola’s side have the opportunity to further strengthen their claim for a place in next season’s UEFA Champions League as they continue their pursuit of a top-five finish in the current Premier League table.
Despite the struggles of the ongoing season owing largely to fitness and injury problems, Manchester City could find themselves level on points with Arsenal by the end of the weekend should they defeat the Saints away from home and Mikel Arteta’s side lose away to Liverpool.
There also remains the possibility that City could secure their place in Europe’s premier club competition as soon as this weekend depending on the outcome of other matches across the Premier League.
A win for Pep Guardiola’s side against the already-relegated Saints and a failure to win for Aston Villa against Bournemouth away from home would mean Unai Emery’s side would be unable to catch the four-in-a-row Premier League champions as they sit in fifth.
Should Nottingham Forest lose to Leicester and Chelsea lose to Newcastle, then Manchester City will also be guaranteed a top-five place as Enzo Maresca and his players travel to the City Ground on the final day of the season with a guarantee of dropped points for either side.
Now, as focus turns to the contest against Simon Rusk’s Southampton side this weekend, an early insight into how the Manchester City squad is shaping up for the fixture has emerged on social media.
As per footage captured on the ground at Southampton Airport on Friday evening by ‘SotonAviation‘, this is the complete Manchester City squad list that has made the journey to the south coast ahead of Saturday afternoon’s fixture:
Goalkeepers: Ederson, Ortega Moreno, Carson.
Defenders: Nunes, Lewis, Dias, Akanji, Khusanov, Reis, Gvardiol, O’Reilly.
Midfielders: Nico, Kovacic, Gundogan, Bernardo, Echeverri, McAtee, De Bruyne, Foden.
Forwards: Savinho, Haaland, Marmoush, Doku, Grealish.
Given the fact that Manchester City will only be able to name 20 players as part of their starting line-up and substitutes, four names from the travelling squad will need to be excluded entirely today.
Many supporters may recall that Claudio Echeverri, for example, was part of Manchester City’s squad that arrived at the Etihad Stadium for the recent Premier League encounter with Aston Villa but did not make the final list of starting names or substitutes.
Some would presume that a similar outcome can be expected on the south coast this weekend, with Echeverri potentially joined by the likes of Scott Carson, Vitor Reis, and possibly James McAtee.
