Thomas Tuchel has been strongly linked with the Manchester United job. Still, Erik ten Hag remains as manager and the Football Association may be trying to get their nose in early to avoid stiff competition.

Reports in Germany suggest the Manchester United-linked manager could ‘quickly reach an agreement’ to become the next England manager.

Tuchel, 51, has been out of work since leaving Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich at the end of last season. He’s already experienced Premier League football since he won the Champions League with Chelsea.

The German met with Sir Jim Ratcliffe during the summer when the club considered replacing Ten Hag after winning the FA Cup. However, they decided to stick with the Dutchman, who has endured a poor start to the 2024/25 campaign.

Tuchel is now being mooted as a potential replacement for Gareth Southgate, before the former Middlesbrough boss announced that he is taking a break from managing following a 2-1 loss to Spain in the European Championship final.

That led to Lee Carsley stepping into the role as interim manager. Despite winning his first two games in charge, the Three Lions suffered an embarrassing 2-1 loss against Greece in the Nations League on Thursday night.

A report from Wert TV, as relayed by Bild via Christian Falk, claims Tuchel is ‘negotiating’ a deal with England.

Talks between the two parties are believed to be ‘well advanced’ and ‘an agreement could be reached quickly’.
