Ruben Amorim’s Manchester United will hold talks on Sunday over a potential deal for Mathys Tel.

That is according to Ben Jacobs, who has reported on X that United are not giving up on the prospect of signing Tel before the transfer window closes on Monday.

The well-known and well-respected journalist has claimed that United will hold further talks with Bayern today for the signing of Tel.

Jacobs has added that there is still a chance that Tel, who was described as “a very quick, technically strong and versatile striker” by former Bayern Sporting Director Hasan Salihamidzic on the club’s official website in July 2022, will leave the German giants.

Tel is a very good footballer who can play as a centre-forward or out wide. The Frenchman is still only 19 and could develop into a fine player in the coming years.

However, Tel is not what United need right now. The former Premier League and UEFA Champions League winners should look at signing a more mature, developed and established striker.

Rasmus Hojlund is the only recognised striker in Amorim’s squad. He is just 21 now and has scored seven goals and given one assist in 29 matches in all competitions so far this season.

Joshua Zirkzee is not really a number 9 and has not been able to make a huge impact at Old Trafford.

Tel is a player for the future, and while it is admirable that United are looking at someone like him, they need to think about the here and now.

The French teenager has made 14 appearances for Bayern so far this season. The striker has given one assist in those games.

Tel scored 10 goals and provided six assists in 41 matches in all competitions for the Bavarian giants last season.
