Chelsea are preparing for a tough run-in. The Blues face Copenhagen tomorrow for the second leg of their UEFA Europa Conference League tie, after which they face Arsenal over the weekend.
Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca delivered team news on his players, with several sidelined. According to the Italian tactician, Christopher Nkunku, Reece James, and Cole Palmer are all fit despite the trio having problems over the week. Malo Gusto remains sidelined.
There was also an update on midfielder Romeo Lavia, who has missed a large chunk of the season for Chelsea. He is back in training, but Maresca said he won’t feature tomorrow as the aim is to keep him fit for the rest of the season.
Chelsea fans will be more concerned about the return of attacking duo Nicolas Jackson and Noni Madueke. The Senegalese centre-forward has been out since February, leaving a gaping hole in the Blues’ forward line.
Madueke is also battling a problem that has seen him miss the last few Chelsea games. However, there is some good news regarding both men.
Maresca confirmed both are in line for a return after the March international break, bolstering Chelsea for a difficult run-in as they bid to secure top four in the league and the Conference League title.
Unfortunately for Chelsea fans, Maresca had no updates regarding summer signing Marc Guiu. The Spanish striker was finding his footing in blue before injuries curtailed his development, and there has been nothing about his return from the manager.
The £5 million summer signing from Barcelona would have been a useful option, especially with Jackson out and Nkunku looking like a fish out of water in the centre-forward position.
Chelsea need all hands on deck with crucial games against Copenhagen, Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, and Brentford in the coming weeks. Hopefully, Jackson and Madueke will be back in time for the latter two fixtures.
