Weston McKennie and Pierre Kalulu were visibly frustrated at Juventus fumbling yet another lead to draw 1-1 with Atalanta. ‘The final result hurts and small details make the difference.’

It was a very eventful match that remained open to the last second, with chances at both ends including Marco Carnesecchi clawing a Pierre Kalulu header off the line and Mario Pasalic missing when clear on goal.

Kalulu did open the scoring eventually when running onto the Weston McKennie assist, but Mateo Retegui nodded in the Raoul Bellanova knock-down to seal the 1-1 result.

“I was proud to score the goal, but the final result and conceding in the final minutes does hurt, because we had suffered today, but also had more chances to score. We wanted to prove that we are up there, but there are these small details that we need to fix and it didn’t go the way we wanted today,” Kalulu told Sky Sport Italia.

The Bianconeri cannot seem to keep a clean sheet, conceding in each of their last seven Serie A matches.

“All errors are avoidable, there isn’t a goal that cannot be blamed on someone. When we scored, they made a mistake, and the same when we conceded. We need broad shoulders, have to take all the blows and trust that it will get better with hard work.

“It would’ve been a perfect night if we had kept a clean sheet and won 1-0, but this is football, the details make the difference.”

Both these teams appear to be stuck in a groove at the moment, because while Juventus have drawn a massive 13 out of 20 Serie A matches, this was the third stalemate in a row for Atalanta.

McKennie had been filling in as a left-back for several matches, but this evening was moved into the attacking group of four.

“I always put the team first and foremost,” McKennie told Sky Sport Italia and DAZN.

“It doesn’t matter if I am a striker or a defender, the important thing is that the team gets three points. Juventus must always be at the top and win these matches.”

However, it was yet another stalemate and that means Juventus are 15 points worse off than at this stage last season in Serie A.

“We created a bit more today, but in the end it doesn’t matter if you don’t score goals or keep conceding. We play to win every game and this is a difficult moment, but the important thing is to stick together as a team, a club and with the fans.

“Hopefully we can get all three points in the next match, because you play football to win.”
