Scott McTominay and Matteo Politano insist Napoli must ‘focus on themselves’ in the Serie A title race, but the Scotsman also praises Romelu Lukaku: ‘He’s a great teammate, very demanding.’

McTominay scored a brace in Napoli’s 3-0 win over Empoli on Monday, winning the Serie A MOTM Award, although his teammate Lukaku scored once and assisted twice.

“Romelu is a great teammate. He’s very demanding. He demands a lot from all the team and me to score more goals and create more opportunities for him to score as well,” the ex-Manchester United midfielder told DAZN.

“He got two assists and one goal. He’s obviously a great player. He’s had a great career, and we are so happy to have Rom.”

Napoli remain three points below table leaders Inter with six games to go.

“I’ve dreamed of winning trophies and being a champion my whole life. I’ll never lose that feeling until my career is finished,” McTominay continued.

“We can’t look too far. I’m not getting too carried away with what other teams do. We must focus on ourselves and keep a clear mind.”

Italy international Politano has already won a Serie A title with Napoli.

“The lads who have arrived can feel our fans’ love. When we returned from Bergamo, they understood the environment right away, and they also wanted to reach this difficult target,” he said.

“We dream a lot, but as I said, we must think about Saturday, three points, and then we’ll see.

“We had prepared for this kind of game. We knew how important it was,” continued the Italian winger.

“We must have fun and think about ourselves. We are a strong team and must continue with this playing style and attitude. We must think about ourselves, and then we’ll see what Inter will do.”
