Mediaset: Milan considering ‘surprise’ move for Mancini – why there is interest | OneFootball

AC Milan are making several considerations about their next head coach, and Roberto Mancini’s name is now appearing on the shortlist.

In a year where the managerial situation has been constantly scrutinised, there have been many shocking headlines. However, if Milan were to appoint Mancini, it would probably top the list.

Last summer, and even in January, the Rossoneri wanted to appoint an exciting coach with a rich idea of how they wanted to play football. Furthermore, that coach was towards one end of the age spectrum. However, it seems that the idea is now being thrown out.

It starts with the fact that the club wants an Italian coach, and most of them happen to be of an ‘older’ bracket, if you will; the likes of Massimiliano Allegri and Maurizio Sarri, for example. Rather than a younger coach like Roberto De Zerbi.

In the background, Mancini’s name has appeared on occasion, but now it seems like it might be there to stay, with Sportmediaset (via PianetaMilan) reporting that he has become a ‘surprise’ candidate for the soon-to-be vacant position.

Rather than it being a case of the club admiring his work or stature within the game, the main reason for his inclusion on the list is that he is Italian, talk about ticking a box…
