TOLUCA, Mexico – Mexico earned a 4-nil win against Honduras in the second leg of their series in the quarterfinals in League A of the 2024/25 Concacaf Nations League, winning 4-2 on aggregate, on Tuesday at the Estadio Nemesio Díez in Toluca, Mexico.

Mexico looked to overturn a 2-nil defeat in San Pedro Sula, Honduras, last Friday, while Los Catrachos sought to build on their first-leg win.

Edson Álvarez had a look for Mexico in the 2’ with a long distance shot that was tipped by Honduras goalkeeper Edrick Menjívar before bouncing off the crossbar.

Edwin Rodríguez had the most straightforward chance for the visitors in the 17’, but his right-footed attempt was met by a save from Mexico goalkeeper Luis Malagón.

Raúl Jiménez broke the deadlock to give Mexico the lead in the 42’, connecting at the right post with a delivery from Jesús Orozco.

Edwin Rodríguez came close to equalizing for Honduras in the 68’, with a right-footed attempt inside the box, but Malagón was again present with a save.

Henry Martín doubled Mexico’s lead in the 72’ with a left-footed finish from close range, tying the series on aggregate.

Jorge Sánchez struck in the 85’, bringing the ball down before unleashing a right-footed strike to the top of the goal. The goal placed Mexico in the lead on aggregate.

Martín secured his brace from the penalty spot in the 90’+7’ to seal the victory.

Mexico won the series 4-2 on aggregate and advanced to the 2025 CNL Finals and 2025 Gold Cup.

Honduras closed its 2024/25 CNL campaign and moves on to the 2025 Gold Cup Prelims.
