Aberdeen boss Jimmy Thelin has remained coy but hinted at the possibility of Kevin Nisbet joining permanently from Millwall.

Aberdeen head coach Jimmy Thelin has remained coy on the future of Millwall loanee Kevin Nisbet, with the Swede hinting at the fact he would like the forward to remain at Pittodrie next season.

Nisbet joined the Dons on loan from the Championship play-off chasing Lions towards the end of last summer’s transfer window, and he has enjoyed a fruitful time of things now he is north of the border once again.

The Scotsman notched his 13th goal of the campaign at the weekend to score the only goal of the game as Aberdeen defeated his former side Hibernian in the battle to qualify for the UEFA Europa League.

That strike was his sixth in his last nine Scottish Premiership appearances, and Thelin has discussed how happy Aberdeen are with him, with a slight transfer hint ahead of the summer.

“He’s still not our player," Thelin said, as per the Press & Journal.

"We’re happy that Kevin is here and he looks happy but I can’t talk about other teams’ players but right now he’s here and we’re still happy he’s here.”

With a season left on his deal at The Den, the Scotland international may well have a few suitors this summer, but a permanent move to the Dandies would appear a real possibility.

Kevin Nisbet has endured a frustrating time at Millwall - a summer exit permanently is inevitable

After spending his career exclusively in Scotland since a professional debut in 2014 for Partick Thistle before loans with East Stirlingshire, Ayr United and Dumbarton and permanent spells at Raith Rovers, Dunfermline Athletic and Hibs; Nisbet moved south of the border to the English capital city of London in the summer of 2023.

The 28-year-old Glaswegian endured an underwhelming first season with the Lions, though, as they eventually fought off relegation under the management of Neil Harris following Gary Rowett’s departure in mid-October and the poor stint in charge of Joe Edwards.

Nisbet, capped 11 times by Scotland, notched just five goals in 28 Championship appearances and eventually departed The Den with Millwall spending on strikers such as Macaulay Langstaff and Mihailo Ivanovic.

Back in Scotland, he appears to once again be settled and comfortable, as Thelin suggests, and that may well be where he ends up on a permanent basis once again after this summer - providing they can find the funds to strike a deal.
