Matches against Monza and Atalanta will need one big push from Inter Milan to go into the March international break top of the Serie A table.

Today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews, highlight the Nerazzurri’s “mission” over the next week and change.

In just over a week, the March international break will be upon Inter Milan.

This will bring to a close a brutal sequence of fixtures that has lasted for four months. Inter have played matches in Serie A, the Champions League, the Coppa Italia, and the Supercoppa Italiana.

That run certainly hasn’t been without its setbacks for Inter. There have been injuries, dropped points in the league, and a bitterly disappointing Supercoppa final loss to AC Milan.

That is perhaps inevitable when the team is playing just about twice a week.

But at the end of it, Inter could be right where they want to be nevertheless.

“Mission Monza & Atalanta” For Inter Milan To Head Into March Break Top Of Serie A

Inter will face Milan in the Coppa Italia semifinals in April. And in the Champions League, the Nerazzurri have planted one foot in the quarterfinals with a round of sixteen first leg win over Feyenoord.

Then, in the league, Inter Milan are currently top of the table.

Inter are just a point clear of Napoli at the top of Serie A. They drew with the Partenopei last weekend.

Meanwhile, Atalanta are three points behind the Nerazzurri. And Juventus are lurking with just a six-point gap to make up.

In any event, Inter will be very keen to preserve their place at the top of the pile heading into the March international break.

That would certainly constitute a big boost in terms of psychology and momentum.

In order to guarantee doing so, Inter must navigate two tricky fixtures against fellow Lombard teams.

Today, Inter take on Monza. The Brianzoli may be rock bottom of the Serie A table. But they’ve already gotten a result against Inter this season, and have done so other times in recent seasons.

Then, next weekend it’s the other end of the table for Inter. They face Atalanta in another match that could be a potential title-decider.

The Nerazzurri will feel that if they can take six points from six from these matches, they would have taken a big step towards retaining their title.
