Napoli didn’t get closer to Alejandro Garnacho after further talks with Manchester United and have started pursuing Karim Adeyemi as a fallback. They won’t abandon the Argentine, but they consider the request too high, La Gazzetta dello Sport informs.
The Red Devils’ director Matt Hargreaves left Milan after a few days of negotiations with the Azzurri and with Lecce for Patrick Dorgu. The Premier League giants have lowered their demands from €80M to €65M, but the Partenopei have tendered €45/50M plus add-ons. The two sides will eventually pick up the matter remotely.
Napoli quickly moved for a Garnacho alternative, testing the waters for Adeyemi. The striker stayed put after an insistent courtship by Juventus last summer. Borussia Dortmund aren’t having a great season and fired their coach Nuri Sahin after the upset loss against Bologna on Tuesday.
The forward is open to transferring, and the Azzurri will gather intel about his price tag and the viability of his January exit. The counterparty are close to landing a potential replacement, Yunus Akgun from Galatasaray.
The 23-year-old has tallied 5 goals and 5 assists in 13 appearances so far this season, missing a couple of months due to a thigh injury. He makes €2.5M and would likely ask for €1M annually more if he transferred.
It might be a tactical retreat, as they have rarely relented for priority targets in the Antonio Conte era. The German attacker would be a sound plan B, but the trident with David Neres would be too offensive-minded to be deployed regularly, as was the case with Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.
