Former Manchester United defender Nemanja Vidic believes Ruben Amorim has two tasks he must urgently address to hit the ground running in his new job as head coach.
The Portuguese coach was appointed as Erik ten Hag’s successor on November 1.
During the transition, Ruud van Nistelrooy stood in as caretaker boss, managing four games and recording three wins and one draw.
Amorim officially started work at Carrington on Monday and made his first major decision by telling Ruud van Nistelrooy that he didn’t have a future as part of the coaching staff.
While Roy Keane agreed with Amorim’s decision, Rio Ferdinand said it was a mistake.

There is no shortage of work at United for Amorim, who will want to implement his preferred style of football on the players.
United are currently 13th in the Premier League, with 15 points from a possible 33.
After beating Leicester City 3-0 in the previous outing, under Van Nistelrooy, the aim will be for Amorim to get a similar result when the Reds travel to Ipswich Town after the international break.
Although the Serb admits he doesn’t know a lot about Amorim, he has noticed the positive vibes that came from his successful Sporting CP side.
Speaking to Sky Sports about the appointment, Vidic noted some of the important factors that United need to get right in order for Amorim to be successful.
“I don’t know much about him. [But] obviously, I know he was very successful at Sporting Lisbon,” Vidic said.
“He seems like a very positive guy and I think he has a winning mentality. He played at a top level. He was a decent player. He has a very good background.
“But, for me, what managers and coaches need in the modern game is, first of all, good recruitment, and an ability to deal with the players, media, and even with the people in the club. I hope that he is the right fit for the club.”
Vidic added: “A job needs to be done in the next few transfer windows. Not just players they are going to bring in – I think some players definitely have to try and find new teams.”
While they had Vidic for an interview, it would have been a waste not to ask for his thoughts on Ten Hag getting the sack.
“It’s difficult to say whether it was right or not. But definitely we have to say that Erik ten Hag got support from the club over the years. The club invested a lot of money in the philosophy of Ten Hag, but if you look at the results, my expectation and the expectation of the fans was much higher.
“But I’m not sure it was just a problem with the coach. I think we have to look at the bigger picture. Other things need to be right to help the coach perform and give the best of his ability. Sometimes you don’t need the best player in the world to play for your club, but you need the right character.”
