FC Barcelona secured a spot in the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League after beating SL Benfica in the Round of 16 with a 4-1 scoreline on aggregate.
In this next round of the competition, the Blaugranes will face off against another team whom they have already faced this season, i.e., the German side Borussia Dortmund, who made their way to the quarter-finals with a win over Lille.
Although the Catalans beat BVB 3-2 in that game, the yellow and black team players were apparently not too afraid of facing Barcelona once again in the competition.
As Mundo Deportivo has reported, one of their midfielders, Emre Can, was particularly happy with this tie, and expressed his keenness to play against the Blaugrana club in the following words:
“Football is played to compete in matches like this. We want to enjoy the game and play well. Our goal is to qualify, and we will fight for it. We’ll see what happens.”
Similarly, the goalkeeper Gregory Kobel also shared similar sentiments while also admitting this would be a difficult match:
“Barça is a great opponent, and it will be a very difficult match, but there is nothing more beautiful than playing the Champions League quarterfinals against Barcelona. Advantage to playing the second leg in Dortmund? We are the underdogs against Barcelona.”
Meanwhile, the Sporting Director of Borussia Dortmund, Sebastien Kehl, also admitted this will be a tough tie for his team:
“We watched Barça’s match against Benfica, and they are a very strong team. We have already faced them in recent weeks, so they are not an unfamiliar opponent for us. Even so, we will try to give our best. It will undoubtedly be a tough match.”
There are some days left before the two teams face off on the pitch, but there is no doubt that this is going to be quite an exciting tie for both the involved teams.
