Martin Odegaard admitted the second-half performance from Arsenal against Bournemouth was “not acceptable” after they let a one-goal lead slip on Saturday.
The Norwegian midfielder played Declan Rice through for the opening goal in the first half, but the Gunners failed to capitalise on their early dominance at the Emirates Stadium.
Dean Huijsen met a long throw-in from Antoine Semenyo with his head for the equaliser in the 67th minute before Evanilson scored the winner with his ribs while tussling with Odegaard in the box.
It’s the first time Bournemouth have ever won away against the north London outfit.
Speaking to Sky Sports after the final whistle, the Arsenal captain called the turnover a “massive disappointment”.
“I think we started the game pretty well – we got the goal and felt like we controlled pretty much everything, but they score and we lose control of the game,” Odegaard said.
“We never find the rhythm after that, it is too chaotic and too sloppy from us. The second half is not acceptable.”
The defeat was Arsenal’s first in the Premier League since February, but their second in a row after losing 1-0 to PSG at home in the first of their Champions League semi-final. They travel to Paris for the return leg on Wednesday.
“We have to move on as we have a massive game coming up. We have to get ready for that and analyse this game as well,” Odegaard added.
“This is what we want – we want to compete in every competition. We wanted to come here and do a good game and win, but that wasn’t the case.
“It is a massive game on Wednesday, but we have to use today to be ready and beat PSG on Wednesday.”
