Alexandre Lacazette (33) will leave formative club Olympique Lyonnais upon the expiry of his contract at the end of the season, it has been confirmed.
It had been expected that Lacazette would leave at the end of his deal. The Frenchman is on a high wage and the club are currently mired in financial issues. Lacazette rejoined Lyon back in 2022, joining his boyhood club on a free transfer following the expiry of his contract at Arsenal.
Last season, he played a key role in driving Lyon from a relegation battle and towards an unlikely qualification for the UEFA Europa League. He netted 22 goals in the 2023/24 campaign in 35 games in all competitions. This time around, he has netted 17 in 41 games.
He leaves the club after 390 games. He has scored 199 goals for the club over two spells and will look to reach 200 when he plays his final game against SCO Angers on Saturday. Speaking ahead of that match, Paulo Fonseca confirmed that this would be Lacazette’s final game for the club.
“I spoke with Alex today. It is true, it will be his last match here on Saturday. He has done magnificent things for the club,” said the OL manager.
