One potential destination for Mykhailo Mudryk in January could be off the table due to Premier League loan rules according to reports.

Mudryk has struggled to make an impact at Stamford Bridge following his arrival from Shakhtar Donetsk for an initial £62.5m in January 2023.

The 23-year-old looked like he was going to join Arsenal before the Blues swooped in late on and got the deal done from under the noses of their rivals.

Premier League loan rules could block Mudryk January exit

In his first six months at the club Mudyrk failed to register a goal contribution, but he showed signs of improvement last season and scored seven goals in 41 appearances in all competitions.

With the additions of Jadon Sancho, Pedro Neto and Joao Felix over the summer, competition in the attacking third of the pitch increased massively.

Mudryk has started just one Premier League game this season against Wolves, which he was substituted at half time in, and minutes have been hard to come by in the league.

He’s impressed far more in the cup competitions where he’s shown glimpses of the obvious talent he possesses, and the winger has two goals and three assists from three Conference League games so far, although Enzo Maresca admitted he wasn’t sure when he would reach his full potential.

With Estevao Willian and Kendry Paez both arriving next summer amid the already fierce competition for places, Mudryk has been linked with a move to Marseille, whilst Crystal Palace are thought to be the latest team to express interest.

Whether Chelsea are open to letting Mudryk go in January remains to be seen,  but according to The Mirror Premier League rules would block the Ukrainian joining Palace on loan due to the fact Trevoh Chalobah is already on loan at Selhurst Park.

The rules state that clubs can’t register more than one player on loan from the same club, which would rule out a temporary switch to the Eagles.

Mudryk has shown signs of improvement in recent weeks and seems to be an option Maresca trusts from the bench, with the Italian turning to him more often than the likes of Christopher Nkunku and Joao Felix.

It will be interesting to see what opportunities he’s handed after the international break when the fixtures come thick and fast in the build-up to Christmas.
