One of Todd Boehly’s early but failed transfer signings at Chelsea has admitted that there is a better feeling at the club right now.

Boehly was the face of Chelsea in the early ownership takeover, and as we know, he took a very hands on role in terms of signing new players.

When he arrived at the club, he can be attributed to making the signings of players such as Raheem Sterling and Kalidou Koulibaly.

I don’t think any of them were bad signings at the time, and you could see why Boehly wanted to bring them both in. At the time also, it seems Boehly was taking advice on which players to sign by the manager Thomas Tuchel, who was clearly a Sterling admirer.

Boehly went for a bit of proven experience, and I don’t think anyone at the time could have predicted how poor Koulibaly would have been. He was a colossal and proven centre back, the captain of Napoli, with bags of experience. But he just didn’t settle at Chelsea and it failed.

In words to GIVEMESPORT this week, Koulibaly said:

“I enjoyed my time at Chelsea,” he said. “It’s true it was a little short. I couldn’t show all my potential. But I am happy for them now. There’s a better feeling at the club. Things are going good.

“There are a lot players over there, including Nicolas, who I speak to and I follow. I like to see Chelsea at this level. They have had a few difficult years, but there is a new stability there now under Enzo Maresca. I am happy for them and maybe we are going to meet in the Club World Cup next summer.”

The defender is now having a better time playing out in Saudi.
