After a rather slow month of January, the winter transfer window closed yesterday with a bang for FC Barcelona, as they got a significant injection of cash to their coffers with the transfer of their former midfielder, Nico Gonzalez, to Manchester City from Porto.

The Catalans got around €13 million from this transfer, and although this sum was significantly lower than they would have previously expected, they were still able to get a significant income without parting ways with any of their players.

However, this operation could have provided the Blaugranes with even more money, as SPORT reports that Porto, looking for a replacement of Nico, had set sights on another Barcelona midfielder, Pablo Torre. The Portuguese club even put in a €8 million offer for him, the same amount that they had paid for Nico in 2023.

However, despite the scarcity of minutes under Hansi Flick, Torre ruled out a move as he decided to remain at the Blaugrana club and continue fighting for a place in the team.

Similarly, the Catalans themselves did not feel an urgent need to sell, even though they would have agreed to allow the midfielder to leave for this sum if he himself was open to such a move.

They had already ruled out a loan, as it would not have provided them with an immediate economic benefit, and Flick also wants to have all his players remain for the second half of the season.

Now, with the winter transfer market closed, Torre will continue at Barcelona, at least will the end of this season, and will be focusing on impressing the German tactician to continue to grow as a player and to get more prominence in the Blaugrana team. Hopefully, he will be successful in this endeavor, and prove his utility in this crucial second half of the season.
