Joel Pohjanpalo saluted Venezia fans in tears today, as he is close to joining Palermo and could be replaced by Roman Yaremchuk of Olympiacos.
Pohjanpalo is a hero to the Lagunari supporters and helped them earn promotion from Serie B last season.
The 30-year-old has been at the club since leaving Bayer Leverkusen in the summer of 2022 and so far this term has scored six goals in 20 Serie A games.
There were genuine doubts as to whether he would even be part of the Venezia squad in today’s 1-1 draw with Verona, but he was in the starting XI.

After the final whistle, Pohjanpalo was visibly in tears as he said goodbye to the fans at the Stadio Penzo, knowing his future is already decided.
Serie B side Palermo have offered circa €4m to purchase him with a contract to June 2029.
The only delay has been allowing Venezia to find someone who can take the Finland international’s place.
According to Sky Sport Italia, the final step could be on its way, because they have identified Yaremchuk as his potential replacement.
The 29-year-old Ukraine international is considering the proposal to join Venezia on loan for the rest of the season.
There could also be an option to buy for the centre-forward, who scored 17 goals in 59 senior caps for his country.
