Moment of the Week

For the first time in 35 years, a Premier League title was celebrated in front of fans at Anfield.

Liverpool’s success in 2019/20 had got the monkey off their back, but a worldwide pandemic prevented the party atmosphere that was witnessed this weekend. This time, the Kop was in full voice as Liverpool were presented with the trophy, following their season finale against Crystal Palace.

There was a raucous rendition of Freed from Desire, and an emotional edition of You’ll Never Walk Alone.

Elsewhere, there were tears from the departing Trent Alexander-Arnold. After being booed on his last appearance at Anfield, the right-back received an ovation when collecting his medal and was visibly overwhelmed in the aftermath.

On the pitch, the biggest talking point of the Premier League weekend came at Old Trafford.

Aston Villa were denied an opening goal at Manchester United, with Morgan Rogers incorrectly adjudged to have dispossessed the ball from goalkeeper Altay Bayindir’s grip.

Replays suggested otherwise, and 10-man Villa fell behind to just moments later. Their 2-0 defeat cost the club a place in next season’s Champions League.

Player of the Week

Jarrod Bowen delivered the perfect response to his England snub this week to ensure West Ham’s hard season ended on a high.

Bowen brilliantly set up James Ward-Prowse’s opener in the 3-1 win at Ipswich, showing alertness to seize upon an under-hit backpass before unselfishly squaring to his teammate. He fired home the second himself, with a trademark effort from the edge of the area.

Jinking inside onto his trusted left boot, Bowen blasted home a stunner to send the Hammers on their way to three points. It’s been a tough campaign at the London Stadium but Bowen’s levels have barely dropped. He ends 2024/25 campaign with 21 goals and assists in the Premier League.

Goal of the Week

What a way to score your first Premier League goal.

Diego Gomez put a fantastic finishing touch on Brighton’s season with a fabulous fourth as the Seagulls thrashed Spurs in North London. An unstoppable effort from the January recruit.

Stat of the Week

You’ll never win anything with kids, apparently.

But you might get Champions League qualification.

A week to forget for…

Emi Martinez. In what looks increasingly likely to be his last game for Aston Villa, the Argentine goalkeeper received the first red card of his career at Manchester United.

Martinez appeared to forget what sport he was playing as he bulldozed Rasmus Hojlund, leaving Villa down to 10 men in the first half at Old Trafford. Unai Emery’s side fell to a 2-0 defeat with their disadvantage, missing out on Champions League qualification by virtue of goal difference. It was not the farewell the 32-year-old had pictured.
