Inter Milan are under massive pressure to beat Empoli this evening after Napoli’s victory over Atalanta yesterday.
Today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews, characterize the Serie A outing as a “must-win” match for the Nerazzurri.
Inter may well deny it. But they certainly had one eye on yesterday’s Serie A match between Atalanta and Napoli.
The Partenopei got a huge statement win, coming behind from an early goal to win 3-2.
That match was a significant boost to Napoli’s title credentials.
The Campanian team are now, temporarily, six points clear of Inter at the top of the table.
The Nerazzurri do have two games in hand, however. The first of them this evening against Empoli.
Inter have a match that is, on paper, more of a “routine” appointment than yesterday’s head-to-head clash between Atalanta and Napoli.
The Nerazzurri are certainly favourites to beat Empoli.
Inter won the first meeting between the two teams this season 3-0.
However, Empoli have proven themselves a tough opponent in Serie A this season. They’ve established a firm foothold for themselves in midtable.
Therefore, Inter can hardly take anything for granted this evening.
But if the Nerazzurri were to drop points, it would well and truly hand Napoli the initiative in the Serie A title race.
