For this crucial game, the Spaniard decided to put the exact same XI that faced Liverpool last week, aim to reproduce the same collective performance, while hoping for a positive outcome. On the other side, Arne Slot made the same decision that Luis Enrique and realigned the same starting lineup.

Champions League : Paris through the quarterfinals

This crucial game started off completely different than the one last week, with Liverpool pressing PSG high on the pitch. This pressure put Luis Enrique's team on the back foot, giving confidence to the hosts who created the first big chances of the game through Mo Salah.

The Egyptian looked like his true self in the first 10 minutes of the game and saw Nuno Mendes denying him the opener with a perfectly timed block to stop his close range effort. Nonetheless, Ousmane Dembélé put his side up by one on the night from close range after a cotsly misunderstanding between Konaté and Alisson, leveling the score on aggregate (12').

Both teams put a high level of intensity in the first half with Liverpool dominating on the ball while PSG operated in counterattacks. Though, the end of the first 45 saw Paris slowly take the upper hand on the hosts with Kvaratskhelia and Dembélé creating increasingly more chances.

The second half started with the same intensity level from both sides, though it is the hosts that created many chances to score. Donnarumma then prevented Luis Diaz to score with an amazing save to keep his side ahead on the night.

After 30 minutes in the second half, Liverpool have been in complete control, annihilating every counter-attacking possibility for Paris. Konaté and Van Dijk have been almost perfect tonight against Dembélé. Unable to separate themselves, both teams headed to extra time.

At the start of extra time, substitute Désiré Doué came close to score his side's second goal but saw his effort go just wide of the post. In the second half of extra time, Doué once again saw his long range effort go wide of Alisson's post. Without a goal, penalty shootout will decide of the tie.

Donnarumma was decisive in the shootout after saving two shots. Darwin Nunez and Curtis Jones' penalties were saved by the Italian.

Up next, Paris Saint-Germain will host Olympique de Marseille in the second "Le Classique" of the season between the two top teams of the league.
