Paris Saint-Germain’s owners, Qatari Sports Investments (QSI), are in talks to purchase Spanish second-division side Malaga, as reported by Sky Sports and confirmed by L’Équipe.

QSI bought PSG back in 2011 and more recently acquired a 21.67% stake in Portuguese side SC Braga. A new club club now be added to the portfolio. As per L’Équipe, talks to purchase Malaga are advancing rapidly, with an agreement worth around €100m touted by the publication.

L’Équipe understands that QSI are looking to buy Malaga because the city will host matches during the 2030 FIFA World Cup (to be hosted in Spain, Portugal, and Morocco), because of the modernisation of the project and the renovation of the stadium and also because, as the sixth-largest city in Spain, there is a market to exploit.

A QSI spokesperson, responding to the report, said that they are “currently studying a range of investment opportunities in Europe and in America.” L’Équipe understands that PSG’s QSi owners are also in negotiations regarding a project in Belgium.
