Former Tottenham player and Barcelona and Spain star are caught up in spat
Van der Vaart and Yamal have been involved in a spat after the former Tottenham player branded the 17-year-old “superficial” and criticised him for wearing his shorts too low.
“These are things I notice: I see things that are starting to bother me a bit. Pants a little lower, not making much effort, gestures a little superficial,' Van der Vaart told NOS.
“That's when I think: if you're that young, you should be happy with every minute you play for Spain.”
Yamal responded by scoring as Spain knocked the Netherlands out of the Nations League on Sunday and then turned on Van der Vaart on Instagram.

“Pants down, one goal, missed penalty, and in the semi-finals. Hehehehehe, let's go Spain!'” he posted.
And now Van der Vaart has responded again in his exchange with Yamal and told him “not to worry so much about what an overweight former player says”.
“I would advise Lamine Yamal not to worry so much about what an overweight former player says,” Van der Vaart told Ziggo Sports.
“At 17, with so much praise, you think the world revolves around you. It’s happened to all of us, but it’s not the case.
“Football is fun, but not important. If you think you’re some sort of God, you become dislikable.”
