Ever since Dani Carvajal’s season-ending ACL injury was confirmed this past weekend, the rumour mill has been buzzing with speculations that Real Madrid will go for reinforcements in January.

Indeed, it has been suggested that Los Blancos plan to sign not only a new right-back but also a centre-back during the winter transfer window.

The name of Liverpool mainstay Trent Alexander-Arnold has been suggested as a target for the Spanish capital giants again.

No plans for reinforcement

Despite this reality, Real Madrid are currently not considering entering the market for emergency replacements sources from the club have told AS.

The confidence in Lucas Vazquez is unwavering, evidenced by his contract renewal in July. The former winger has made the right-back position his own and enjoyed one of his best seasons in 2023/24, contributing three goals and eight assists in 1,784 minutes.

Vazquez has previously filled this role effectively, having started in 34 of 35 matches during the 2020-21 season when Carvajal faced physical challenges. Now, he will be asked to step up as the first-choice right-back once again, justified by his performance and leadership.

Additionally, the club is not currently exploring the possibility of signing a central defender mid-season. The focus remains on strategic signings rather than immediate fixes.

Real Madrid are not reacting to alarm bells but adhering to a well-defined roadmap. They intend to make thoughtful acquisitions, rather than settling for available options.
