Liverpool are set to suffer a real blow to Real Madrid. Los Blancos want to ruin the Reds’ future plans.

Liverpool just can’t get away from Real Madrid. Florentino Perez and company just won’t let them - it feels like a battle commences every single year and it’s one the Reds never win.

Of course, the big one in 2025 was Trent Alexander-Arnold. The Scouser will leave Liverpool with the end of his contract this summer and is widely expected to join Real Madrid on a long-term deal.

This is just the latest case, though. Liverpool have lost many, many targets to the Spanish giants over the last few years - the Reds’ squad would look incredibly different if not for Real Madrid. There’s no question about that.

And it appears this awful tradition is going to continue. Liverpool have a plan at centre-back, particularly to cover Ibrahima Konate’s possible exit, but Real Madrid are set to ruin that plan.

Konate’s contract expires at the end of next season and Liverpool are struggling to agree on new terms. It should be said that both parties want that new deal to happen but whether they want it on the same terms is another matter.

Liverpool, then, want to target a new centre-back to replace Konate. Real Madrid, though, want the same centre-back.

Here are the details.

Real Madrid push for Dean Huijsen

Real Madrid have long been in the background for Dean Huijsen. He is, after all, possibly the most impressive young centre-back around right now.

Huijsen’s debut campaign in the Premier League has been remarkable, drawing particular attention to his £50m release clause. He’s now expected to move as a result, with Liverpool, Chelsea and the like letting Bournemouth know quite some time ago that they will trigger the clause.

Real Madrid, though, have pushed their way to the front. The Guardian are just one of several outlets reporting that Huijsen now wants to move to the Santiago Bernabeu this summer.
