In a repeat of the 2023-24 Wembley final, Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund go head-to-head on Tuesday evening.

Real have won the last three meetings between the sides, but an inconsistent start to the season will give the Bundesliga outfit some hope of gaining revenge.

Recent form suggest there will be goals at the Bernabeu so those in the UK tuning in to TNT Sports 2 to watch the action could be in for a treat.

Ancelotti set to work his magic

It’s still very early days in the new format of the Champions League, but the biggest surprise to date is the slow start made by the defending champions.

Real Madrid are currently 17th in the table, having collecting three points from their first two matches, suffering a surprise defeat at the hands of Lille.

Despite the addition of superstar Kylian Mbappe in the summer, things have not run smoothly in the Spanish capital and they will be tested on Tuesday.

Real have already dropped six points in La Liga, although it’s worth noting that their home form remains impressive with six wins from six in all competitions.

Opponents Dortmund sit top of the new Champions League table, with maximum points from their opening two matches.

Nuri Sahin’s men, who will face Barcelona in December, have scored 10 goals in beating Club Brugge and Celtic. There have also been an average of 3.71 goals in their league games this season.

Dortmund’s league form has been patchy though, with BVB lying seventh in the Bundesliga with 13 points from their opening seven matches.

A major concern going into the clash in Spain is that they have lost their last two away games, at Stuttgart and Union Berlin.

It’s also worth noting that the last team to beat Real Madrid in the Champions League at the Bernabeu in 90 minutes were Sheriff Tiraspol back in September 2021.

Real Madrid vs Borussia Dortmund Team News

Real are still without two influential defenders in Dani Carvajal and David Alaba, who are both sidelined with knee injuries.

Brahim Diaz is also missing, while Ancelotti will hand a late fitness check to Eder Militao, who has also been struggling with a knee problem.

The hosts are expected to start with the attacking trio of Mbappe, Jude Bellingham and Vinicius Junior. Dortmund also have injury issues to contend with, as Karim Adeyemi – who scored a hat-trick against Celtic – is set to miss out with a muscle tear.

US international Giovanni Reyna is sidelined by a groin injury, while Brazilian defender Yan Couto misses the clash due to a muscle problem.
