Xabi Alonso has on Friday all but confirmed his imminent move to La Liga giants Real Madrid.
This comes amid confirmation of the Spaniard’s stint with Bayer Leverkusen being set to come to an end upon the season’s close.
The name of tactician Alonso has of course taken its place front and centre in the headlines surrounding Real Madrid for several months now.
This comes after widespread conifrmation was forthcoming that the ex-midfielder had been identified as the no.1 long-term target to replace Carlo Ancelotti.
With Ancelotti now primed to move on in the summer, though, the Blancos brass were forced to fast track efforts to bring Alonso in.
And as alluded to above, if the latest comments on the part of the 43-year-old himself are anything to go by, then such efforts look set to bear imminent fruit.
Speaking to the media on Friday, Alonso at last admitted:
“It’s time to confirm these will be my final games at Bayer.”
