The crushing 2-5 defeat to arch-rivals FC Barcelona in the Spanish Super Cup final last weekend still echoes within Real Madrid.

More than just a loss, the manner of the defeat exposed the team’s inability to find consistency and perform at their best level this season even though they boast of a star-studded squad.

Despite brief moments of promise, the team continues to falter and questions are being asked of manager Carlo Ancelotti as a result.

Ancelotti getting fed up

Indeed, Ancelotti has come under intense criticism for Real Madrid’s problems this season such as Kylian Mbappe’s adaptation, failure to deal with Toni Kroos’ retirement, Vinicius Jr.’s constant distractions, and the recurring injury woes.

Now, according to journalist Anton Meana on El Larguero, the 65-year-old appears increasingly frustrated with his players not listening to him and their lack of adherence to his instructions.

“He has a problem in the dressing room. He’s tired of the players not listening to him. He’s repeated it all season long – a defensive commitment. Since October, he’s mentioned it around 12 to 14 times,” the journalist explained.

“He identifies the problem, the team responds in isolated matches, but not consistently. He’s fed up with the team not following through.”

Continuing, Meana added that Ancelotti feels wrongly blamed for Real Madrid’s poor performances this season, as he believes that he and his staff are doing a good job but there seems to be a disconnect within the team.

“He feels blamed – both he and his coaching staff. Perhaps selfishly, but sincerely, he believes he’s not doing a bad job. He feels his assistant isn’t doing a bad job either, and that the team is prepared to compete, yet they don’t execute what they discuss,” Meana explained.

“Ancelotti has expressed to the press his growing disconnect with the dressing room.”

During Wednesday’s press conference, Ancelotti once again stressed on the lack of defensive commitment shown by the team, claiming that it was the primary reason for their defeat to Barcelona.

It will be interesting to see if the players address that issue later tonight when they take on Celta Vigo in the Copa del Rey.
