With Rodrigo Bentancur’s contract entering its final stages, rumours of a potential renewal surfaced earlier this week.

According to TuttoMercatoWeb, it’s a reality that Spurs have started working on renewing the contract of the Uruguayan midfielder, as they do not want to allow him to enter the final year of his contract.

The report also states that manager Ange Postecoglou has expressed his support for this move and sees Bentancur as a 'key' part of Tottenham’s future plans.

A few days ago, Postecoglou was asked about the speculation surrounding a possible new contract, and although he neither confirmed nor denied it, he hinted that the midfielder is a crucial part of the team.

Ange Postecoglou admitted that he understands Bentancur has struggled with consistency over the past year due to injuries but believes the player is now returning to his previous form.
