Marseille have tightened their grip on Ligue 1’s second place in defeating Rennes on Saturday night at Roazhon Park. The hosts opened the scoring through France U21 international striker Arnaud Kalimuendo. But Roberto De Zerbi’s side restored parity seconds before half-time thanks to Mason Greenwood. In the second half, Marseille eventually took the lead courtesy of France international midfielder Adrien Rabiot. The Italian manager has overseen Marseille’s sixth win in their last seven games and was pleased with Les Phocéens‘ mentality.
“It was a tough game and an incredible win against a good team. In the second half, we really deserved to win tonight. I think the mentality made the difference. I’m very lucky. I have very strong players, with the right mentality. They are level-headed, but ambitious”, Roberto De Zerbi said in his post-game presser attended by Get French Football News. The former Brighton and Hove Albion FC head coach was particularly pleased by the fact several Marseille players act as leaders, such as Rabiot, Greenwood, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg or Neal Maupay. “I’m very happy to have ten leaders in my team.”
Marseille will host Lille OSC in the Coupe de France RO32 on Tuesday.
