Manchester United returned to winning ways on Thursday night with an impressive 2-1 win over Rangers in the Europa League.
The Red Devils were the better side over 90 minutes, but Rangers almost managed to pick up a point until Bruno Fernandes’ heroics.
With the scores level at 1-1, Fernandes bagged the winner in stoppage time with a splendid volley.
Speaking ahead of the Fulham game, Amorim said that the club are lucky to have a player like Fernandes, who is ‘really important’ to the team.
He told reporters (via Beanyman Sports): “We are lucky to have a player like Bruno Fernandes! Sometimes he makes mistakes.. like me last week.
“But he is really important and he has passion and this is so important to be a football player.”
The Portuguese tactician was also pressed on the future of Marcus Rashford, who has been out of matchday squads due to transfer speculation.
Amorim said he does not know what will happen with Rashford but his future will be sorted by the end of the winter transfer window.
He added: “I don’t know. I really don’t know. Guys, it’s eight days. We will see in the end of the window what happened. And then we will talk about that in the moment.”
United moved to fourth in the league phase of the Europa League after a dramatic win over Rangers.
They are now two points ahead of ninth-placed Galatasaray with another league game to go.
The club look on course to directly qualify for the round of 16 stage with a top-eight finish.
The Red Devils now need to refocus for Sunday’s crunch Premier League game at Craven Cottage.
United have an extraordinary record against the Cottagers, but they suffered a 2-1 loss to Marco Silva’s side in the same fixture last term.
Amorim’s side are languishing 13th in the table with 26 points. They must build a long winning streak to have any chance of making the top five.
The gap is already significant at 12 points, and the Red Devils cannot afford any more slip-ups if they want to qualify for Europe via the league.
